Matt (Minnentoka, MN) joined the Minnesota National Guard at the age of 17 in 2002 in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. He deployed as an infantryman to Farah, Afghanistan from 2004-2005 driving over 5,000 in theater and the most in the company, Matt was the youngest soldier at the time and earned a combat infantryman’s badge and Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM) for his service.

After his first deployment he joined ROTC at Minnesota State University, Mankato and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant branching to the Adjutant General Corps while simultaneously continuing to train with the Minnesota National Guard. Upon graduation, Matt served five years on active duty with the 3rd Infantry Division, at Fort Stewart Georgia, where he served his second deployment to Afghanistan from 2012-2013. During his second deployment, Matt decided he wanted to return home after his initial tour of duty was completed to be closer to family and start a career in business.

Matt gained experience in a variety of areas including residential real estate as an agent and investor and corporate consulting with Accenture, a global firm where he took on tough projects in the human capital space as well as on the sales and deal execution team.

After three years at Accenture, Matt was accepted to the MBA program at The Foster School of Business at the University of Washington, Seattle where he pursued his degree while simultaneously launching a business, a fast casual franchise restaurant (Nautical Bowls) in Minnesota.

After a couple of years Matt sold the business and decided to return to his passion, which is real estate. In addition to Matt’s position as a Commercial Real Estate Associate Broker, he continues to serve in the Army Reserve as a Military Academy Liaison officer (rank of Major), for the United States Military Academy at West Point. Matt has over 23 years of total military service.

On the personal side Matt has two daughters 10 & 5 and is married to Randi Riggs who is a Mayo trained certified registered nurse anesthetist. They love to golf, ski and travel as a family.
